Police Brutality: something we all need to think about.

I personally believe its the "Time to strip the Police Departments of their Internal Investigation Department. Create a Civilian Oversight Board; determined like jury duty. One where the sole purpose is to review Police Misconduct and bring charges upon Officers if need be, that would then be tried in a court of law." 

The Lawlessness within the Police, the hatred and racism, is a plague on our Society. Police Brutality is one thing that we all need to think about and discuss. The Militarization is out of control and so are the Politicians who support this. We most VOTE those Politicians out of Office. Send a clear and concise message to them, that this mentality, this acceptance to believe you can turn a "Military" on us to serve us a summons or cite a traffic ticket, must stop.  The Police are supposed to be here to serve us, protect us. They are not here to corral us, herd us, or slaughter us.  Yet they are. 

The current White House Administration has failed to address the issue appropriately. Instead sort of turning a "blind eye" towards the brutality.  Case in point, the FERGUSON MASSACRE that we joust witnessed. President Obama was slow to speak on the issue and then was sort of chastising Residence for trying to PROTEST the killing of Michael Brown. A clear violation of FREE SPEECH occurred, not to mention deadly threats. Or what about the Police killing a Young Black Man, John Crawford,  in Walmart for carrying a B&B Gun that he was going to purchase, where is the President on this one? Examples like these are so common and prevalent in America right now. 

It is time we arm ourselves with our VOTE. We don't NEED GUNS to fight off the tyranny of BIG BROTHER, CORPORATE AMERICA, or the OLIGARCHY, like the some people in this Country of ours believe. All we need is our VOTE. 

Together we can stand strong, arm in arm, and STOP this MADNESS. 

This should be a talking point that we all can agree in. Tea Party and Liberals, this should be an issue we can easily, by working together. This isn't about taking away gun rights from ANY ONE CIVILIAN. Its about insuring our lives, from the possibility of  being subjected to treatment like this. This is the Country where FREEDOM is supposed to RIEGN FREE....yet here we are suppressing the RIGHTS, that we are supposed to hold so dear, of our neighbors and turning a blind eye.

Here’s how it works: if you have millions of dollars that you want to spend, you can funnel it through back channels so that it ends up in the hands of a group – typically one with a generic and benign-sounding name – that uses the money to buy ads, often without disclosing the source of its funds.

This whole thing looks to me a lot like money laundering – except that it’s now perfectly legal. And, again, this is real: a study just came out which showed that, in the current election cycle alone, there’s already been over 150,000 ads run by groups that don’t have to disclose the source of their funding.

And get this: things are only getting worse. Earlier this year, in a case called McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court was at it again, recklessly doing away with a law that prohibited people from giving more than $123,000, in the aggregate, directly to candidates in an election cycle. One-hundred-and-twenty-three-thousand-dollars. Who has that kind of money lying around to spend on elections? The super-rich, maybe. But the middle class sure doesn’t. The folks I meet with in Minnesota – who are trying to make ends meet, pay off their student loans, train for a new job, save some money to start a family – they sure don’t. And those are the folks who most need a voice here in Washington.

So the way I see it is this: there are two ways that we can go from here. On the one hand, we can continue to let Citizens United be the law of the land. We can perpetuate the fallacy that corporations have a constitutional right to flood our elections with undisclosed money; we can let deep-pocketed special interests buy influence and access – and then set the agenda for the rest of the country.

Or … Or, we can say, enough is enough. We can restore the law to what it was before Citizens United was decided – and, more to the point, we can restore a voice for millions upon millions of everyday Americans who want nothing more than to see their government represent them."  - Senator Al Franken (D-MN) speech on the Senate Floor debating Citizens United.  

If this is actually about FREE SPEECH, then we and SCOTUS have completely missed the mark, for SPEECH isn't FREE if we have to PAY for it.  

The greed that runs through the very soul of this Nation is now completely out of control. Our Country sits on a very dark and dreary precipice and its up to us to make change. To change the paradigm and make ourselves evolve. For we are seeing drastic reductions in Cvil Rights for the Middle Class and the Working Class Poor; we have Judges that rule in favor of those that are "affluent' even when they kill people. The Militarization of American Police continues at such a pace I can't even keep up. Even the San Diego Public School District just received a new Armored Trucks? And for what, to keep the PEACE? 

I could go on and on about this, however, now is the time we must take control of our Nation and once again bring back "[O]ne Nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." 

DEMILITARIZE the POLICE. Change the PARADIGM.

Clearly, I have been saying something along this lines for some time. There is no reason our Police in America need Military Grade Weapons and Vehicles. I was sitting here and some show, that my wife had been watching on MSNBC, was discussing this idea.

One of the justifications as to why they should have it, from some Commentator, was this idea that the Police would have it in case of another 9/11 situation would occur in America. It wasn't "really" intended to help Police Communities, per say.

OK- so as to that here is my two cents.

IF, we feel, as a Nation, not as a Politician, that our Police should have the means to take on some group of Armed Terrorists, that have some how made it deep into our heartland, or on to the shores of our Coasts, other then the weapons they already carry (Guns, Batons, ShotGuns and Rifles), fine. Let them have them. Let them get trained in them.

As a former Hospital Corpsman, and a Veteran of a Foreign War, I get this idea. And I could see the justification behind it.

HOWEVER...

I do believe that this equipment must be kept under lock and key @ the "LOCAL" National Guard Armory. Also, the Police could only ever access this equipment, through the either an order from the Governors Office or the Presidents Office, or possibly a Congressional Declaration of War.

BUT Thats it.  Dealing with warrants...NOT a TERRORIST situation.
Dealing with a Speeding Ticket...NOT a TERRORIST situation. Dealing with Gang Bangers...NOT a TERRORIST situation (a SWAT one perhaps). Dealing with underage drinking...NOT a TERRORIST situation. Arresting a Pot Dealer...NOT a TERRORIST situation. Arresting a Pot Smoker...NOT a TERRORIST situation.  This list could go on and on.

I am going to "double down" on this idea that, IF, they NEED them for combating Terrorists then they need to be in the Governments Armory, somewhere, and only allowed access to them through Governors, Presidents  and Congress.

Thats my two cents. Now granted, it can be tweaked. Its NOT PERFECT. But its an idea to fix a situation and not a bitch. Something I am  going to get better at doing on here. Enough of us are bitching, GUILTY of that crime here as you know, and not enough of us are pitching solutions. So I will 'change that paradigm' when it comes to Policing myself.

I do support Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) plans to file legislation to limit the militarization of local police; its not perfect either, but its a start.  

"Our main streets should be a place for business, families, and relaxation, not tanks and M16s," Johnson says in his letter. "Our local police are quickly beginning to resemble paramilitary forces. This bill will end the free transfers of certain aggressive military equipment to local law enforcement and ensure that all equipment can be accounted for." -  HuffPo.

I consider myself exceptionally rational and I will tell you if I were a Peace Officer I would make it my mission in life to go home to my family after every shift. How 'bout " he was such a nice cop, he always gave people the benefit of the doubt".

I, personally know, that there are good cops out there. Unfortunately, they are a small percentage.

I can't believe that this kid didn't drop the gun, IF, he was asked to do so. I believe they probably just walked up and shot him and then asked for him to cooperate.

I listened to every African-American Mother tell their children about resisting a COPS order and what would happen. ALSO -by saying "I can't believe that this kid didn't drop the gun," is NOT saying HE DID DROP IT or alluding that he did so. It is saying, I CANT BELIEVE he didn't.

If I were him, and I heard COPS yell at someone to drop it, and I not doing anything against the law, I would turn around to see who they were yelling at. I think that may have been the case, but until all the evidence presents itself, I think this is MURDER. A child armed with a BB GUN against a KEVLAR VEST...PFT! JUMP that KID. DOG PILE HIM if you need to.

I spent 8 yrs with the Marine Corps, went to war for this Insane ASS Country, and if i saw a kid with a BB gun and I was in my combat gear, I wouldn't flinch. It may hurt some if I got shot, BUT SO WHAT, thats our job(s).

Again, you figured wrong...cause of your arrogance. My last duty station was the 2nd FSSG in Camp LeJeune, NC. Teaching Microvascular Surgery and pulling duty as Color Guard. Received 80 credit hours for the American Medical Association for the Physician One category award; one of a few hand selected Corpsman ever to receive this training by Captain Woody E. Woodruff; the inventor of many of the microvascular procedures that are used today. That means I was certified to teach heart and kidney transplants, digital reconstruction, etc.

It doesn't take intelligence to jump out of plane; and Special Forces; hardly. You are way to much of an arrogant person to be honored with that award; so now you are also branded a liar. But good googling that info. I will give you a bronze star for being intelligent enough to look for something that sounded "cool." If you fear the Oppressor, then we should give up; A recent conversation about Detroit.

In a recent conversation over FB, I was asking about where is the rage from Detroit Liberals, as in, where is the leadership, where is the organization and mass protest about all that is taking place. And this was one response that I thought I would share. For I personally believe that this encompasses many peoples worries on the Left about protesting. 

"Rich. the militarization of the police and the attacks against against Occupy in many cities are signs that the Tiananmen Square protests and the Istanbul protests are the wave of the future. a mass protest in any US city will face military tactics."

And here was my reply...

"[Y]ou are right. However, we can't fear that. Think of where this country would be now, if people were afraid to face the oppressor. There would be slavery, maybe. There wouldn't have been the Civil Rights Movement in the 60's. Rosa Park would have never sat down, no matter how tired she was. ITs time we, find our courage, like those that bled before us, so we their children could fight this fight again, for our children. And we continue to teach our children to fight and stand up against injustice...and the best way to teach children, is by example. I have been teacher my whole career, be it as a Nurse or a Special Ed. Teacher, i Know this works. Again, its time to stop being afraid of the retaliation, for if thats what www will fear, then give up. Just say its ok, for the rich to own our air, water, and our children.

I just don't want to go out like that. I ant my two year old to know that you don't fear justice. You don't fear the bully when he punches you. You stand up, and let them hit you again, and again, if need be. But you stand up for what is right and moral and just. Thats what I want my son to believe in, and thats what I want him to see his father do."

I really, honestly believe, with all my heart that all is lost if we embrace the fear of repercussion from the tyranny of the Oligarchy and their precious Corporations.
